Clinic Profile
Fibromyalgia and chronic muscular pain (myofascial dysfunction) are tremendously difficult conditions to endure.
Patients afflicted with them frequently report feeling misunderstood, ignored, or dismissed as having a purely psychological problem. They may be accused of being neurotic, whiny, or drug-seeking.
The situation can also a very frustrating condition for physicians, as well. As much as they want to help, there are few approved treatments other than prescribing pain relievers, muscle relaxers, and antidepressants to make patients less sensitive to their pain. Unfortunately, none of these really work very well.
Changing the medical paradigm
The Paragon Clinic for Fibromyalgia and Muscular Pain offers a radical new approach. First of all, we clearly recognize that fibromyalgia is not "all in your head." While it is clear that psychological stress definitely has an aggravating impact on fibromyalgia and that living with fibromyalgia could emotionally drain the hardiest person, there is also a major physical component that must be addressed. Paragon is strongly committed to defining the exact nature of this physical problem and developing ways to correct it.
Secondly, we recognize the powerful impact that self-empowerment has in healing. Chronic pain, in particular, has the ability to wear people down to the point where they start to lose hope, become passive, and just try as best they can to cope with it. We have found that when patients take control of their health, it dramatically accelerates their recovery. At Paragon, we have a strong orientation toward helping patients help themselves through education, demonstration and cooperation.
Finally, Paragon is not a "pain management" clinic. We do not accept that fibromyalgia or muscular pain must simply be "lived with." Our goal is to eliminate pain and develop a cure for fibromyalgia. We intend to work toward that goal by exploring any and all reasonable and promising treatment options. We research new modalities, evaluating whether or not they truly work, then setting out to discover how they exert their effects. It is our belief that, with the help of our patients, we can change the way fibromyalgia and muscular pain are treated worldwide.
